A Poem for This Positive Thinking Thursday

Hey there, sunshine! Today is all about positivity and positive thinking! I want to share a poem with you. Yes, I’ve posted this on Facebook, but it’s been a little while since I did.

This poem was written during the starting point of my journey – after I broke free from the darkness! I go back to it and reread it often! I hope you enjoy!

“Set Me Free”

My heart is a beauty with no vanity or greed.

It’s always forefront and how I succeed.

‘Twas once cut off from the world and it’s pain.

Defeated, broken, and depressingly drained.

A wall built around it with no holes for light,

In survival mode because it lost all its fight.

It forgot how to trust, to love, to believe.

I no longer carried it proudly on my sleeve.

In misery it was since all hearts do need,

Someone to love them and to set them free.

I had to do something, I had to think fast!

I didn’t want tomorrow to be my last.

I knew I needed to love myself more.

That’s how I’d start to open a door –

A door deep inside this cold heart of mine.

It’s got to be alive just one more time!

I made a vow to myself that I would do better,

And wrote down my feelings in a long letter.

I burned that damned paper and it felt so great!

To release my anger, my fears and self hate.

I worked on my heart for days and weeks,

Until it finally felt good enough to speak.

I threw my heart out there with a plan,

To get social again no matter if I just began –

Began to trust, to love, to believe.

Now my heart is beating with glee!

It’s happy again now, not broken or drained.

Beating so proudly full of love and unashamed!

There’s no longer a wall and my heart is set free.

I’m so happy that I finally found long lost me.

What did you think about this one, sunshine? Would you like to share some writings of your own? If I get enough interest in people wanting to write, I will create a writing group! That sounds exciting, doesn’t it?

To conclude this entry, I want YOU to do something for ME! Tell me a positive quote, your most positive experience, or simply tell me some positive qualities about yourself or someone you love! I look forward to reading and replying to everything!

Thank you for all that you do and for all that you’re doing, sunshine! Love you! ♥️

  1. I want some time to process this post and my answer because I really feel it’s important . I appreciate your openness and willingness to share your heart and your journey .Poetry is a beautiful way for us to release our thoughts and over the course of my life I’ve written many many poems myself as well as written songs as well. I come from a very musical family so that is a natural extension of my dna and my soul. Gospel music has been my bedrock as I learned from a very early age to sing not only Melodie’s but harmonies as well with my brothers and my sisters.. more on that later.
My greatest strength lies in the people in my life .. they are my rock .. my family and my husband ( this year will be # 58 for us !
I was blessed from my birth.. more on that later.. for now .. I’m going over in my mind my thoughts on your post today.. God Bless ..
